A Journey Towards

Belonging

Building on the success of the initial retreat, The Make Good Project has established a monthly writers group. In this virtual space, individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences converge digitally to practice and refine their craft, creating a supportive community that transcends geographical boundaries. This ongoing digital engagement serves as an integral part of the organization's mission, connecting like-minded individuals in a collaborative effort to amplify Black voices.

Looking towards the future, The Make Good Project aspires to broaden its impact by expanding the annual retreats to accommodate 50 or more guests. The ultimate goal is to provide a haven where attendees can immerse themselves in the creative process, creating space for their voices to be heard, making a positive impact, and fostering personal well-being. Remarkably, these annual retreats will remain entirely free of charge, ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder access to the transformative power of art.

In essence, The Make Good Project is not just an organization; it is a movement that champions inclusivity, creativity, and the profound impact of artistic expression on individual and collective well-being. Join us on this journey, as we continue to create, inspire, and make good in the world of art.

Established in 2023, The Make Good Project stands as a beacon of creative empowerment, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering artistic expression for Black women. Founded by the visionary Melle Powers, this initiative has swiftly become a catalyst for positive change in the world of art.

The organization's cornerstone is the annual writing retreat, a transformative experience designed to provide a platform for Black women to practice, create, and produce various forms of art. The inaugural retreat unfolded in August 2023 in the idyllic setting of Berkshire, MA. Notably, this seminal event was entirely self-funded by the passionate philanthropist Melle Powers, setting a precedent for the organization's commitment to ensuring that creative opportunities are accessible to all.
