2025 Programs:
The Make Good Project was founded to amplify and fortify the voices of Black women as storytellers, archivists, and visionaries. Guided by the pillars of creativity, community, and wellness, we provide spaces and resources that empower women to share their stories and realize their artistic visions. Our programming includes annual writers’ retreats, professional development opportunities, 10-week writing workshops, and community events— all designed to nurture and uplift the rich diaspora of Black voices. Learn more about each program below.

This year’s retreat will be hosted on Martha’s Vineyard, where participants will aim to leave with a completed draft of a work inspired by the island’s rich African-American history in conversation with the present day. This can include — a screenplay, short film, or performance piece—crafted during a week of creative and wellness programming that includes writing exercises, table reads, yoga, guided meditation and engagement with island resources like the African American Heritage Trail and The Inkwell Polar Bears.

Two writers develop their work during a “29-hour workshop,” with a professional director and actors. This affords the writer the resources to hear her work aloud and to grow her pieces. In 2024, we produced development workshops of 2 of the 4 plays in Anya Pearson’s “The Clytemnestra Cycle.”
